The Galapagos Islands
Extreme Species In An Extreme Landscape

A Visit to one of the most remote parts of the world. February 2026. Report Below
I watched a film called Eden about early settlers to a remote island in the Galapagos. The Isle of Floreana. The end of the film showed real footage of these settlers and advised that descendants of these people run a small tourist hotel on the Island. I booked flights the next day and it was absolutely the right thing to do. The word remote is what appealed most to me. The larger Islands of The Galapagos like Santa Cruz, Isabella, Cristobel are where most tourists go. Some may stop for a day on Floreana as part of Cruises or day trips. I wanted to live it. So I booked 9 nights on Floreana. I wanted to feel the Island, its' ruggedness, its' remoteness, its' wildlife and most of all its' isolation.
